Soccer Mom

When someone refers to the phrase "Soccer Mom", I don't imaging that person being the one I see in the mirror everyday. I don't wear "mom" jeans, I don't drive a mini van (although I'm not knockin the mini van), I don't bake cookies daily or have a holiday sweater (for some reason I imagine a soccer mom having some kind of holiday sweater for every occasion).

With that said, I am a mom, and enjoy watching my daughter play soccer. So I guess that would make me a soccer mom, "mom" jeans or not. This was Emma's second year in AYSO. A much better year as far as performance. I'm not that mom who cares how their child performs, but it is nice when they do something amazing. Emma scored two goals this year and I couldn't have been prouder, but as long as she has fun and enjoys it, I'm happy.

I learned so much from the team mom we had last year, and am so thankful for all the ideas I got from her. I wasn't team mom this year, but still got to involve myself with some duties. My favorite this year was making little keepsakes of their season to take home.

This year the girls named their team the Angry Birds. Cute. Last year they were the Pink Flamingos and managed to get orange and blue uniforms. Seriously? This year Emma got lucky enough to get the same color uniform (really?) but the name Angry Birds worked. We got the normal felt soccer banner done and was impressed with the artwork!

When the end of the season came up quickly I knew exactly what I was going to do with this banner. Last year our team mom made the little medals by cutting out each name. She did things a little differently than I did, I think I took the shortcut route, but the medals were very well received by both the players and parents.

Took some scissors to that banner and cut around each girls name and number. The supplies it took to make these was pretty inexpensive. I roll of ribbon and a half a yard of coordinating felt.

Since our team was orange and blue again, I choose the orange felt for the backing. I couldn't find any good ribbon that would match, so I choose the wide orange grosgrain ribbon with the thinner stain blue and glued the thinner ribbon onto the wider to make it match the team colors.

Use your name cutouts as a stencil to cut the same size orange felt for the backing.

Once the ribbon was done I cut the length to each specific name cutout. You can make this ribbon as long or as short as you would like it. The length I cut is perfect to hang on the trophies the girls get, or can be hung on a doorknob.

I sandwiched the ribbon between the backing and name cutout, pinned, and sewed along the edge with blue thread. You could do these even without a sewing machine! Glue would do the trick too.

So easy!

You may have seen these before, but last year was my first time seeing these and I just loved the idea, so I wanted to share.

Want to win a Halloween zip pouch? *CLOSED*

It's easy! Leave a comment either on this post or on Purdy Burdy's Facebook page, telling me what you will be or want to be this Halloween.

If you've read any of my posts you will know Halloween is my favorite holiday. I love the cooler weather, treats, costumes, decorations, but I've never been one to dress up. Sure, back in the day I rocked the plastic face mask with matching smock of whatever character was popular that year, but even as a child I never went all out in the costume department. It's different with my kids. This is the first year I'm not making their costumes and it's a nice break, but I will still bring out all the stops with their costumes. Come October 31st I will have a 50's Car Hop, and a Headless Horseman walking my halls.

So whether or not you are a costumer, post your costume ideas and I will live vicariously through you.

The winner will pick their choice of any Halloween zip pouch from the Purdy Burdy Handmade shop. I'm adding more zip pouches daily, so hopefully one strikes your fancy. Contest will end Monday 10/03 @ 5pm. I will pick a winner at random and contact them for zip pouch choice shipping info. I will send the winner the zip pouch of their choice on Tuesday 10/04 via UPS Ground, tracking will be provided once the item is shipped.

That's it! Easy right? Happy Haunting.
