Buy Purdy Burdy and help save an animals life!

I'm so excited to announce that Purdy Burdy Handmade is working with D.R.E.A.M. Animal Rescue to raise money to help animals in need!

D.R.E.A.M. Animal Rescue  is a non profit based out of Southern California, that was founded by president Jonnie Ben.   Back when she was only 19, Jonnie opened her heart a litter of kittens that were left unwillingly by momma cat. Ditto, the kitten she kept from the litter she cared for, was a beautiful tortoise shell cat with lots of spunk, attitude, and heart. Ditto’s life was long for a cat, she lived to almost twenty years old. Through thick and thin, Jonnie and Ditto stuck together. Ditto was Jonnie’s best friend and her baby – and Feburary 4th, 2011, Ditto was put to sleep after a long and happy life spent almost entirely with her human companion.

D.R.E.A.M. stands for “Ditto’s Rescue, Every Animal Matters” to continue the memory of Ditto and her contribution to Jonnie's life through rescuing cats and other animals just like Ditto; ones in situations that could improve with a new, happier home, where they can live out their lives in happiness, warmth, and companionship.

I stumbled upon DREAM Animal Rescue while helping a friend who was trying to find homes for a momma cat she found and her litter of kittens.  So similar to Jonnie's experience!  I was directed to Jonnie from a previous rescue I had worked with and she was able to take them all in.   Jonnie took the kittens in with open arms, ready to help, ready to find them homes, ready to make a difference in yet another cats life.  Sadly, one of the kittens had to be put to sleep for health issues, but the rest of the litter were placed in a foster home.  In time they all had their flea baths, shots, and after a few weeks were ready to find their forever homes. All the litter, as well as momma Charlie have since been adopted, and happy to say one of them found their forever home with us.

This is Vampyre (that's what happens when you let the kids name her).  She is healthy, happy, fiesty, and grumpy at times, but the joy she has brought to our home is all thanks to Jonnie and the DREAM team

We also adopted a kitten we have been fostering for DREAM.  She was just too sweet to let go.  This is Pepperjack, Pepper for short.

DREAM has a great group of fosters and volunteers, that give up their time and open their homes.   Jonnie and her team make it a mission to pull animals from kill shelters that have expired their stay and will soon be euthanized, rescued animals off of the streets, and have taken in animals that were just unwanted.  Animals that don't have a chance.  Animals that just need someone to love them.  D.R.E.A.M. Animal Rescue gives them that chance by saving their lives and giving them another chance.

Dream Animal Rescue Mission statement: to help any and every animal that needs assistance in finding a new, loving forever home.

As you can imagine, the cost for one animal, let alone a small army of animals can get expensive.  The adoption fee for DREAM animals is tax-deductible, includes spay/neuter, FeLV/FIV testing, vaccinations, deworming, defleaing, and health check.  A small price to pay for a life long friend.  DREAM pays for added costs like food and vet bills, and if  the animal has special needs like surgery, Jonnie and her team have been covering.  I wanted to help get the word out, wanted to help raise money, but how?

Purdy Burdy Handmade will be posting some special Dream Animal Rescue listings.  These will be in Purdy Burdy categories like zip pouches, baby burdy burp clothes, crayon rolls.  Look for these items on the Etsy site often.  If you purchase a DREAM Rescue listing, that means 50% of the proceeds will go right back to DREAM!  We will also donate $1.00 of each item sold on the Etsy site that is not a DREAM listing.  Who doesn't need a super cute zip pouch, or a hair clip?  And by purchasing these items, you can pat yourself on the back knowing your are contributing to helping animals in need. Jonnie and her team are doing something really wonderful, a job not a lot of people can take on, but they are working on saving each animal one at a time.  Let's help them keep DREAM up and running so that many more animals can find their forever homes.

Please visit DREAM Animal Rescue's website for available animals up for adoption and to send donations directly to their organization, and their Facebook page for updates and pictures.
